Boat-to-boat sessions were conducted on the waters in Zone 3 (from Saddle Caye along the reef and down to Ranguana Caye). Sessions are done with fisherfolk found on the water, a revision and reminder of the Fisheries regulations and the Reserve Regulations. This also serves as a time to listen to the fishermen’s concerns. In such education rangers and fishermen work together. This serves as a constant positive reminder for the fishermen to keep doing the right thing that is required by law to be able to see that the purpose and benefit are for them, as fishing is their livelihood therefore, doing the right thing will have more benefit for them in the longer run as their livelihood depends on the marine supply and what is being doing is to protect the supply to last longer for them. These on-water sessions have been very productive as the fishermen share their concerns, and feedback is given to them for them to stay on the right track. Clarification of doubts about the law and boundary demarcation for the reserves is done by rangers and education personnel. They are reminded of the closing of seasons and the size of the catch this makes them start to have positive feedback as they don’t only see the enforcement but rather feel that there is a constant reminder for them to stay on track in following the rules and regulations. The approach is done in a friendly manner for the fishermen fishing in the area. This approach serves as a reminder to them that the SEA Enforcement officer will be patrolling and there will be Zero tolerance for any breakage of the law.
