As the title states Movie nights, that’s right we had movie nights with 2 communities, Placencia and Independence Village. Invitations were sent out on different platforms for the community members to bring their kids to a fun night with the movie Wall-E. we followed a computer-animated robot through an emotional adventure. His job on earth was to clean up the skyscraper-shaped trash piles resembling the skylines of any city. He falls for a robot named Eve (extraterrestrial vegetation Evaluator) and follows her into space where the entire species of humans are aboard a ship, the Axiom. Although much of the film is silent, the robots show emotions, which allow us to share their journey. As adorable as these characters are, it is no secret that this movie sends a powerful message!!
This movie shows that what was once to assist in making our lives easier, like technology, and other inventions, was easily abused and overpowers our lives. Many of the scenes are apparent as to what could happen if we continue to lack motivation to keep our planet clean. This was the message being shared under the Tide Turner’s project. Plastics was invented to help; it is now everywhere! there is no doubt that there are products that help keep us safe. They are in bicycle helmets, child safety seats, airbags that protect us, and cell phones that connect us. Plastics also help get clean water to families that don’t have it. We as humans with our irresponsible actions are causing plastic pollution that is affecting the whole earth, including mankind, wildlife, and aquatic life. It is spreading like a virus. We must all realize the harmful impacts it has on our lives to avert it as soon as possible. Now is the time!!
Therefore, as the kids and parents enjoyed the scenes the powerful message was repeated to them to help bring awareness to our actions. We are the ones causing it and we are the ones that can be a part of the solution. It is EVERYONES RESPONSIBILITY!! This activity was done as a part of the implementation of the Plastic Tide Turners Challenge (PTTC) program in Belize with support from the Basel Convention Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer for the Caribbean (BCRC)
