Laughing Bird Caye National Park (LBCNP) is situated on the western side of the Victoria Channel, approximately 11 miles off the coast from Placencia Village in the Stann Creek District, Belize.  The Park is a complete No Take Zone (NTZ), which was declared as a protected area in 1991 and inscribed as a series of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System (BBRRS) UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. LBCNP was once a popular nesting site for the laughing gull, hence its name. There are still present however, they became less frequent as visitation increased. The northern portion of the Caye is now left in its natural state to encourage the continued presence of the seagulls. The island is now a popular nesting site for various species of sea turtles. LBCNP is truly exceptional due to its abundance in biodiversity and marine ecosystems.
